She has served as the featured dog trainer on television programs, and has published articles about environmental enrichment for an animal industry publication.
In the 1990’s Jo Anne began volunteering for her community dog shelter. Her devotion to helping dogs and their human companions grew out of the love and challenges she faced with Danny and Gloria, the first two troubled shelter dogs she adopted. This experience led her to merge her knowledge in marine mammal training with her passion for teaching and helping companion dogs by joining the trainers at Andrea Arden Dog Training.
Jo Anne teaches group classes and private lesson focusing on everything from raising and training a puppy to considerably more complicated behavioral issues (rowdy dogs, dogs and babies, fearfulness, dod/dog reactivity, resource guarding, and other forms of anxiety and aggression). Jo Anne is dedicated to using positive training techniques and committed to bringing these principles into the daily lives of dogs and their families. She believes training, proper management, and behavioral enrichment are the keys to overcoming the daily challenges of the urban dog and building everlasting human/canine bonds.
She and her husband John have shared their hearts, lives, and home with many dogs large and small. They currently are very happy loving, hiking, and caring for Olive, a small energetic terrier mix who went from foster to adoption, and a rescued Brussels Griffon named Fig.

He currently teaches group classes, private lessons, runs puppy socialization groups, and is a certified evaluator for the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test.
After volunteering for numerous shelters, Mike’s passion for teaching people how to better communicate with their dogs eventually pulled him away from a career in music, which included five albums and touring the country opening for Eric Clapton, No Doubt, and The Kinks, amongst others. Mike was also a professional poker player, an endeavor which added to his ability to accurately read people and situations and to recognize a sure bet; For pet parents that means focusing on dog-friendly training, enrichment, and consistent management.

Melanie’s career with animals began at the Cincinnati Zoo, in her native state of Ohio. She taught summer camps for elementary school students that focused on learning about wild animals so that as adults they would have a personal connection to conservation. She handled a variety of species including prehensile tail porcupines, African grey hornbills, and rainbow boas, just to name a few. After working with such a breadth of different species Melanie decided to work with companion animals. This brought her to Andrea Arden Dog Training where she combines her love of teaching humans and teaching animals in an effort to help them develop a more cooperative, stress free, and joyful bond.
Melanie is a graduate of New York University. During her time at NYU she volunteered with multiple animal shelters. When she's not teaching puppies good manners Melanie writes, directs, and acts in a variety of different plays and films.

Lara is a graduate of the Professional Dog Training program, a supporting member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, and is Pet First Aid and CPR certified.
Lara teaches group classes and assists in private lessons and has helped hundreds of clients learn to better communicate with their dogs and develop their skills and enthusiasm for training.
If her teaching style seems somewhat calculated, it may be due to her previous career as an accountant and financial analyst #accountinghumor (It's a thing. Seriously.) After leaving that career behind, Lara worked as a handler and team leader in dog daycare. This gave her exposure to over 100 dogs on a daily basis to learn about dog-dog and dog-human interactions. She's volunteered for rescue organizations in her home town of Sydney, Australia and here in NYC to provide enrichment activities and foster care for dogs, cats, rabbits and birds. She continues to provide foster care for rescue dogs in need of training to improve their prospects of successful adoption.

Hannah is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers, is a major dog training nerd and advocate for positive dog training, and is passionate about helping furry friends and their owners develop deep bonds and strong communication skills using positive reinforcement and management.
Hannah is a graduate of Ithaca’s Musical Theatre program. When she is not training, she can be seen on stage in musicals and plays across the globe.
Jeny made a big and bold career move after 13 years as an ophthalmic medical assistant and retinal photographer with the same practice. The physician she worked with was the one to contact us to say that while he didn't want to see her go, he knew that her passion was helping dogs and their people develop better relationships.
Jeny’s education in animal handling and behavior includes being a surgical veterinary technician, a groomer’s assistant at a dog and cat grooming salon, and a volunteer at Liberty Humane Society animal shelter. However, she finds the most joy in animal behavior and helping pet parents develop happy and healthy relationships with their dogs that will last a lifetime. After apprenticing with our team and earning her CPDT-KA certification, Jeny now co-teaches group classes and moderates puppy play groups.
Jeny graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from William Paterson University accomplishing a major in Interpersonal Communication and a minor in Theatre and Comedy. She is a proud mom to her three loving dogs; a Shih-Tzu named Dalleh, Maltese named Dooley, and a rescue Chihuahua Dachshund mix named Rocko. What people say about us
I’ve taken several classes with Andrea Arden Dog Training. The instructors are very informed, patient, and experienced. It takes the frustration out of dog training, and with patience, positive reinforcement and fun, the relationship between dog and owner grows. They make it easy. In fact, I doubt I would have a second dog if it wasn’t for Andrea Arden Dog Training. We began in the winter of 2007 and are still going back for more, including the small dog socialization groups. Can’t say enough~ except thank you!

WOW! Say it with me: Cesar who? Andrea Arden’s Katrina Krings is the true Dog Whisperer! I called her to work with my 4 month old Maltese who I was hopeless at training. After only a few sessions she literally transformed my dog, and then worked with me to make sure I could keep the training up on my own! Kartrina, I cannot thank you enough!!!!!!! Suki is happy and I was told by my vet that she is the most well behaved dog they have ever worked with. (To be clear, they called me at home to mention this because they were so impressed by her calm demeanor and pure obedience) Great job!!!!!!!!!!

This dog training school is really excellent. The classes started on-time, the facility was clean and we got what we paid for; a well-trained dog. I would highly recommend to anyone (which means everyone) who needs a professional dog trainer to address the behavioral issues which are common to dogs.
Pet Parent Henry S.
This is the best place! I took my puppy here for training classes and would do it again in a heart beat. The trainers are highly informed in training dogs, love every puppy, and are VERY approachable. I have recommended it to a handful of people with new puppies. They even answered questions for me months later. Top quality!!! You guys are perfect!
Pet Parent Jill J.
We had one of the trainers, Katrina, come to our home for private lessons with our 7 month old dog. The lessons and follow up homework were clear and effective. Our dogs barking and house training problems are now under control.
Pet Parent G. H.
We just finished our 3rd private training session and can’t believe how much of a difference we see in our 8 1/2 month puppy, Omar. Our trainer Katrina has been an unbelievable wealth of knowledge — answering every question we had thoroughly, and proactively giving us additional relevant tips at every step. For anyone looking for excellent training for their dog... go to Andrea Arden Dog Training!!
Pet Parent Rosenstocke
I took a puppy class and it helped tremendously!!! The trainer was more than willing to answer any silly little question that i had (and anyone else in the class – believe me there were a lot!) She emailed us tasks & additional info too. I saved the emails & still refer back to these sometimes. Katrina was more than willing address any problems I was having with my pooch. The techniques that we were taught I still use. Recently I travelled up state where i had my dog off leash (which freaked me completely out) then i just used some simple targeting tasks we were taught in class . After a day i was completely calm with her off leash & every time I call her she comes running! This is something i dont think i would have been able to achieve on my own. Taking the class was definetly the best thing I could have done for my puppy!

I got two new little schnauzer puppies and took them to Andrea Arden for training. Prior to taking them for training, they were very wild and hard to control. After our training sessions the improvement in their behavior was dramatic. The trainers here really have a way with animals and their love of dogs really shows.
Pet Parent S. Price
I recently completed Andrea Arden’s Adult Basic class with my newly rescued Wheaten Terrier. Over the class my dog’s behavior improved immensely, as did my knowledge of how best to train her. Andrea Arden Training uses reward-based training and my dog LOVES it – she now will spontaneously do obedience moves in the hopes that I will give her a treat. Our class was quite small (just 3 dogs), so it was almost like having 1 on 1 training. It was very helpful to see the trainers demonstrate the techniques. Additionally, many of the Andrea Arden trainers have also rescued dogs, so they have a good understanding of the different training issues rescued dogs face. Two paws up!
Pet Parent Ellen C.
We just got our new Goldendoodle and had a great trainer from Andrea Arden help us with house training and jumping. We were at our wits end with the nipping and chewing too. The trainer calmed us down and let us know that all this behavior is normal and showed us so many great ways to get control of the situation. She was really understanding and patient. Additionally, she went out of her way to assist our family beyond just the lesson. I was so pleased to find out that she purchased toys and treats to bring the next time she came. The entire experience with Lisa and the other staff was a great one. Bernie and my whole family give the entire crew a thumb and paw up!
Pet Parent Pat G.
I am a first time dog owner and needed to control my new little fury friend. The staff here is second to none, the facilities are fantastic, and my little pup loves it! He’s obedient, calm, and receptive to the training. Andrea and Jo Anne really care about the dogs and take a lot of time to make sure the little fellas are on track. Highly recommended!
