Information about our trick n treat dog training

Every dog should have a few tricks up his or her sleeve! Have a great time with your dog while teaching a variety of tricks chosen with your dog’s particular personality and physique in mind. Everyone loves their dog and strives to find ways to enrich their canine companions life mentally and physically. There is perhaps no better way to do this than to focus on continuing education for your dog and adding more fun tricks to their behavioral repertoire.

Doing so will enhance the canine-human bond, further expand the lines of communication and provide a sure-fire way to impress family and friends. Your instructor will cover a range of tricks and take requests for additional tricks best suited to your dog! This class is for dogs with no aggression issues who have previously trained with us in group and/or private lessons. Two people may attend per pup.

Details

For dogs of any size, breed or mix who have previously trained with us in group and/or private lessons. Dogs should have no aggression history or reactivity issues. If you aren’t sure what this means, please contact us.

The in-person course meets for four one-hour classes and is $350 for the course. Two people may attend with each canine student.

The class fee is non-refundable, non-transferable and there are no make-up classes. Prior to registering please note the nature of offering limited space classes, the above stated policies, and that there are no exceptions.

Proof of Vaccine Requirements: For dogs 4 months (16 weeks) or older a record of their vaccinations must be signed by your veterinarian and include vaccine for: rabies, parvovirus, parainfluenza, adenovirus, bordetella, and distemper. If your veterinarian chooses not to give your pup one or more of these vaccines at the time of class, we must have a signed letter from them stating that it is contraindicated. Entry to classes is not permitted without Health Department required proof of vaccinations. You must bring a hard/printed copy with you to the first class to give to the instructor to keep at the location.

Methodology

What type of training do you use?

Our training philosophy is centered around creating a positive and engaging environment for both dogs and their owners. We employ methods that motivate your dog to actively engage in the training process, making learning a game they want to play. By teaching owners effective time management techniques for their dogs, we help prevent undesirable behaviors and pave the way for successful training outcomes. At the heart of our approach is positive, reward-based training, which we believe is the most effective way to cultivate well-mannered and obedient family pets

What types of tools do you use?

We focus on utilizing rewards that each individual dog finds most appealing to encourage their compliance with training commands. These rewards include praise, petting, toys, treats, and environmental benefits such as extra couch time or leisurely walks. Our training arsenal also includes basic gear like buckle collars, front-clip harnesses, leashes, treat pouches, and training aids like markers and targeting objects. We are committed to humane training practices and do not use electric shock collars.

Classes

What shots does my dog need to attend class?

Puppies must be current with their vaccinations, appropriate for their age, to join our classes. Given the importance of early socialization for a puppy’s lifelong health and behavior, we recommend starting classes without delay once initial vaccinations have been given. It is advisable to consult with your veterinarian and review respected sources, including Dr. R.K. Anderson’s letter on puppy vaccinations and socialization, for more detailed information.

Can more than one person in my family attend the group training class?

Yes, two family members are welcome to join each canine student in our training sessions. If young children are present, they must be supervised by an adult at all times and remain calm and seated to ensure a safe and distraction-free environment for all class participants.

What should I bring to class?

Please ensure that your dog has not eaten for one to two hours before the class to maximize focus and responsiveness. You should bring soft, small-sized treats, a sturdy 4-6 foot non-retractable leash, an appropriate collar or harness, and a hollow toy that can be filled with food, like ‘The Comfort Bone,’ to keep your dog occupied during discussion periods of the class.
